Sierra Papers and Fine Stationary (Conceptual Project)
This project was part of a class on brand identity. A classmate played the role of the client/company.
01 | The Client/Company:
Sierra Papers and Fine Stationary (a conceptual company) prides itself on producing and customizing unique paper and custom stationary. Their mission is to provide quality products that allow their customers to communicate personal and thoughtful written messages.
02 | Project Goal/ Objective:
The company understands the importance of their brand, image and staying current with their identity for their audience.
The goal of this project was to redesign the company’s logo.
03 | Description of Process:
Research
Before diving into the design process, I spent some time learning about Sierra Papers and its audience to better understand the field and industry. This research involved studying other stationary companies’ brand identities. To name a few this included Crane & Co., Paper Source and Papyrus.
Design Iterations and Creative Strategy
With an update to their logo, Sierra
Papers wanted to add a symbol that represented their trade while keeping the bright green color from their original design. Coming up with an image or drawing that matched the company’s identity was a challenge. As I played with many different pieces of imagery, I loved the idea of using a wax seal to represent the company’s purpose — to provide paper for customers to write messages. While the client was presented with various initial designs, ultimately Sierra Papers agreed that the wax seal offered something different in honoring traditions while setting the company apart.
