Harriett Simon Photography (Conceptual Project)

01 | Client/Company:
After recently working with a photographer, I took it upon myself to tackle a self-study and redesign her business’ logo with a refresh.  However, since  this is not an actual case study, I’ve changed the name of the photographer since I didn’t ask for her permission to use her business or her name. Harriett Simon Photography (not her real name) is a professional photographer with 12 years experience and while she serves the tri-state area, her business is based in Maryland.  She provides photography for weddings and specializes in portrait photography for families.

02 | Project Goal/ Objective:
The objective for this project was to redesign a current business’ logo to make their brand more clean and contemporary.  I chose this particular photographer because her business logo didn’t match the young, vibrant and edgy woman I worked with during a recent event.  ‘Harriett’ is in her 30s.  She’s stylish and incredibly professional with her photography, yet her brand didn’t reflect this.  My goal was to redesign her logo to simplify it and mirror the contemporary and artistic attitude she brought to her business.

03 | Design Process:
I knew from the get go that I wanted to incorporate two styles of typography: an artistic script and a serif font.  I researched other photographers and collected a few ideas that represented the same brand I wanted to create for Harriett.  I played with numerous combinations of typography.  In fact there were so many great options; but ultimately, I decided to choose a simple mono-color design.
